First-person zombie survival game “7 Days to Die” is finally leaving early access to become a fully released title. Twelve years after the launch of its alpha version, version 1.0 of the game is about to see the light of day. Here’s everything you need to know about the long-awaited “7 Days to Die 1.0” update.
7 Days to Die 1.0 Release Date
Dubbed Alpha Exodus (previously known as Apocalypse Edition), the official release date for the 7 Days to Die 1.0 update is now set for 25 July 2024 on PC, after delays were announced in June. The console version should follow about a month after the PC update.
The developers, The Fun Pimps, say they are pleased with the progress they have made, which is why they decided to take the game out of early access. Players can expect experimental versions even after the full release of the game. Older versions will still be available to players, at least on PC.
New features and improvements
Although information on the additions and improvements in this update is still limited, here is an overview of what’s new in version 1.0 of “7 Days to Die” :
- Vehicle overhaul
- New animals
- New gore system for zombies
- Variety of zombies
- New challenge system
- New decors
- Route detectors
- New points of interest (POIs)
- Improvements to visual effects and graphics
- Various optimisations
- Improvements to random generation
- Updated controller support
What’s planned for the future?
The developers also shared a roadmap for future updates from 2024 to 2025:
Q4 2024: Storm’s Brewing – Weather system, biome progression, wardrobe system, crossplay and random generation for consoles.
Q2 2025: A New Threat – Introduction of bandits, new quest type, event system, overhaul of the user interface and main menu.
Q4 2025: The Road Ahead – Story mode, new quest type, revamped merchants and Steam Workshop support.
Bad news for the price…
Players who already own a copy of “7 Days to Die” will not need to purchase the Alpha Exodus update. However, those wishing to purchase the game after the release of version 1.0 will have to pay $44.99. This price will be uniform across all platforms and shops.
The developers will be holding a ‘Last Chance’ sale on Steam from 22 to 29 April 2024, allowing interested players to purchase the game before the price increase.
And what about the console version?
The 1.0 update for consoles should be available around a month after the PC version. Crossplay will be available for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X players, although this feature is still awaiting certification approval from Microsoft and Sony.
It is important to note that versions for older consoles will no longer be supported due to technical limitations. In addition, the game will be withdrawn from digital shops once the new version is launched and will leave Game Pass at the end of April 2024, with no intention of returning.
In a nutshell:
- No modding support planned
- No local split-screen support
- No physical version planned
- Limitations on version 1.0 release, such as no randomly generated maps, lack of level or world editor, and peer-to-peer connection restrictions
